Assistant Professor of Family Medicine Catherine Coe, MD, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). AAMC has changed the board structure of its task force for 2021-2022, expanding the number of voting members from 17 to 19, aiming to create a more “diversified and flexible board structure”. Recently approved increases include additional seats for community members or patients, as well as seats for junior faculty representatives. Coe is the first candidate for the junior faculty seat selected from more than 60 candidates across the country.

"I am honored to be selected for this role and look forward to representing UNC," Coe said. "As a resident of the resident representative organization, I have the opportunity to work with AAMC, and I am very happy to work with AAMC again."

Her junior faculty seat is designed to put the organization's academic mission at its core and include a broader perspective.

Coe has been actively involved in the education of medical students during his tenure. She is a board member of the Accelerated Medical Pathway Programs alliance, which is composed of medical schools in the United States and Canada, has developed a three-year or other accelerated program to obtain a doctor of medicine, and is a fully integrated service preparation training for the director of UNC The program is an intensive three-year medical school program that can be directly promoted to the affiliated residency program, and then serve three years in rural North Carolina or underserved areas, and provide continuous support in practice. She was recently appointed as a member of the Executive Committee of the American Medical Association Alliance for Accelerating Medical Education Change.
